Carrefour, the French grocery chain, has discontinued all PepsiCo products in four European countries: France, Italy, Spain, and Belgium. This strike, which began on Thursday, affects over 9,000 outlets and was initiated in response to the American company's pricing rises.
Customers at Carrefour stores were notified of the removal via placards explaining the cause for the lack of products, which stated: "Due to unacceptably high price increases, we no longer sell this brand." "We apologize for any inconvenience."
This judgment affects a wide range of PepsiCo brands, including Pepsi, 7Up, Mirinda, Mountain Dew, and Gatorade soft drinks; Lays, Doritos, and Cheetos chips; Quaker breakfast items; and Lipton tea and iced tea.
While some Carrefour stores still had PepsiCo items on the shelves as of Thursday, customer reaction was varied.
Edith Carpentier, a consumer, told Reuters that it was unsurprising, stating that the products had grown too pricey and non-essential, and that many other products will remain on the shelves.
PepsiCo responded to Carrefour's decision by saying, "We have been in talks with Carrefour for several months, and we will continue in good faith to ensure that our products will be available" .
Carrefour has a history of advocating for consumer rights. Previously, the grocery chain launched campaigns spotlighting products that had shrunk in size but were nevertheless sold at the same price.
