Coca-Cola Is Facing a Lawsuit for This Controversial Reason
Last week, some consumers criticized Coca-Cola for not include all ethnicities and groups in its new customizable bottle tool. Now, Coke is
facing anger and a lawsuit. They claim the beverage giant has been misrepresenting itself to attract modern consumers and failing to deliver.
The Earth Island Institute, a Berkeley-based environmental nonprofit, sued the Coca-Cola Company in June, according to the San Francisco Gate.
The organization sued the soda behemoth for "false and deceptive marketing representing itself as a sustainable and environmentally
friendly company." The institute objects to Coca-Cola's marketing since Coke is "one of the largest contributors to plastic pollution in the world."
Coke generates 2.9 million metric tons of plastic annually, making it the world's largest plastic trash generator, according to the institute. They
add: "Contrary to Coca-Cola's representations, the company has made no significant effort" to switch to a plastic-reduction economy. Thus,
they quote recent research showing that many Americans unwittingly swallow one credit-card-size chunk of microplastics from plastic garbage each week.
Coca-Cola's brand culture has been seen as progressive lately, but the lawsuit's outcome is unclear: One Southern county banned Coca-Cola vending machines
