AirlineRatings.com, the only website dedicated to annual airline product and safety ratings, has just published its roster of the safest airlines in the world for 2024.
Airways New Zealand, a low-margin leader over its adjacent competitor Qantas, has maintained the top position once more this year.
Air New Zealand, which occupied the top spot on the list of 385 global airlines monitored by AirlineRatings.com in 2022, was dethroned and replaced by Qantas in the previous year.
However, in the current year's classification, the age of its fleet was the deciding factor in demoting the Australian flag carrier to second place by a mere 1.5 points.
With enormous orders for updated A220, A320, A321, A350, and 787 aircraft, which are scheduled to be delivered within the next three years, Qantas is currently undergoing the most extensive fleet renewal in its history.
Virgin Australia, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates, All Nippon Airways, Finnair, and Cathay Pacific Airways lagged behind the top two Oceanian airlines, while nine of the top ten were comprised of higher proportions of foreign carriers.
The only American airline to rank among the top ten was Alaska Airlines, headquartered in the United States.
Additionally, Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, and United Airlines are ranked among the top 25 U.S. airlines.
