Additionally, A4A expressed its desire in a letter that "every feasible measure be undertaken to prevent further staffing triggers, specifically in high volume centers.

Due to a number of near-misses on runways and in the air over the past year, an air traffic controller shortage has been a significant concern.

The agency is taking immediate action to recruit, train, and hire more air traffic controllers as air travel continues to recover.

Criticism has been directed at the agency for requiring air traffic controllers to put in 10-hour days, six days per week.

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg stated this month that flight cancellations in the United States are on track to reach their lowest level in five years.

The FAA announced a panel to investigate the shortage of air traffic controllers in late December.
